The E-Portal’s 1st birthday

27/04/2026

The E-Portal is 1 year old!

Here’s what we’ve learned

Essex’s voluntary and community sector is the beating heart of our neighbourhoods. Every day, local charities, community groups and social enterprises step up to support residents, tackle real-world challenges, and drive meaningful local change.

To support this incredible work, the E-Portal launched in April 2025 — a dedicated online platform built with the sector, for the sector. One year on, we’re taking a moment to celebrate what’s been achieved, share what the data tells us, and look ahead to what’s coming next.

What is the E-Portal?

Think of it as your go-to hub for all things voluntary and community sector in Essex. A space to connect, learn, and grow. Whether you’re running a charity, coordinating volunteers, or leading a community project, the E-Portal is designed to make your work easier, stronger, and more sustainable.

And the best bit? It’s completely free and open to all voluntary and community groups across Essex.

A year in numbers

The response from the sector has been really encouraging. In year one, the E-Portal welcomed 1,253 active users, who collectively triggered over 20,000 interactions with the platform. Visitors spent an average of four minutes and two seconds on the site per session, which for a content platform tells us that people aren’t just arriving and leaving. They’re reading, exploring, and finding things worth their time.

The most visited sections beyond the homepage were news, safeguarding, governance, trustees, and volunteer management, a strong reflection of the practical, day-to-day challenges organisations across Essex are navigating.

On social media, the E-Portal established a presence on both Facebook and LinkedIn, growing to 141 followers and generating over 17,000 impressions in the first year. Content was shared 201 times across both platforms, a sign that people found it useful enough to pass on.

What’s inside

The E-Portal brings everything into one place, helping you cut down on duplicated effort and save time, money, and energy. Inside, you’ll find volunteer management support, governance essentials, safeguarding resources, funding opportunities, and campaign planning tools, with more being added all the time.

One of the highlights of year one has been the launch of our guest blog section, where partners from across the Your Essex Community network have shared their expertise and experience directly with the wider sector. Eight guest blogs have been published so far, covering everything from securing grant funding and effective leadership, to engaging local communities and improving organisational impact. We’d love to grow this further. If you have knowledge worth sharing, we’d love to hear from you.

What’s next

This is just the beginning. Over the coming year, we’ll be expanding the range of topics covered, growing our network of contributors, and exploring new ways to surface the content that matters most to you. The E-Portal is a living resource and the more organisations that get involved, the stronger it becomes.
