Accessibility

We want as many people as possible to be able to use the E-Portal.

We aim to make our website clear, easy to navigate and accessible to people with a range of needs, including those using assistive technologies.

This accessibility statement applies to the E-Portal website.

Using the E-Portal

We aim to make the website so that you can:

  • Navigate the site using a keyboard
  • Zoom in without losing content or functionality
  • Use the site on different screen sizes and devices
  • Use a screen reader to access the content
  • Understand our content without unnecessarily complicated language
  • Identify links and headings clearly
  • Access meaningful alternative text for informative images

We use clear headings, plain English and consistent page layouts wherever possible.

Images

We aim to provide alternative text for images that contain useful information.

Images that are purely decorative should have empty alternative text so that they can be ignored by screen readers.

Links and navigation

We aim to use link text that explains where a link will take you rather than relying on wording such as “click here”.

We also aim to structure pages with meaningful headings so that people using assistive technologies can navigate content more easily.

Documents and downloads

Some pages may include downloadable documents, such as PDFs.

We aim to make new documents as accessible as possible. If you cannot access a document, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Accessibility standards

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.

We are continuing to review the E-Portal and improve its accessibility as the website develops.

If you have difficulty using the E-Portal

If you find an accessibility problem that is not covered on this page, or you cannot access something you need, please let us know.

You can contact us at:

hello@e-portal-essex.co.uk

Please tell us which page or content you were trying to use and what problem you experienced. This will help us investigate it.

If you need information from the E-Portal in a different format, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Known accessibility issues

We are reviewing the website to identify any areas that could be made more accessible.

Where we identify accessibility problems, we will aim to address them as part of our ongoing improvements to the E-Portal.

How we test accessibility

We use a combination of checks to review the accessibility of the E-Portal. These may include:

  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Checking pages at increased zoom levels
  • Automated accessibility testing
  • Checking colour contrast
  • Reviewing heading and link structure
  • Checking images for appropriate alternative text
  • Testing pages across different screen sizes

We will continue to review accessibility as new content and features are added.

When this statement was prepared

This statement was prepared in September 2026.

It will be reviewed as the E-Portal develops and when significant changes are made to the website.
